Friendship the best Gift you can Give.
For so many older people, the loneliness feels sharper, the silence heavier. While the world fills with light and celebration, they are left in the shadows—feeling invisible, forgotten, and completely alone.
For Michael, this was his reality.
When we first spoke to him, he told us, “I felt as though my world had shrunk to four walls around me.” Those four walls became the boundaries of his days, where loneliness slowly overwhelmed him and connection felt far out of reach.
But this Christmas, his story is changing.

Through Friends of the Elderly, Michael found something he thought he had lost forever—a sense of belonging. For the first time in years, he felt welcomed, included, and part of a community again. Simple moments, a volunteer calling for a chat, sharing stories over a cup of tea, joining a social club brought warmth back into his life.
He told us how “the silence that once surrounded me has been replaced with friendship, connection and joy.”
Our 2025 Christmas Silent Night Appeal is dedicated to reaching more people like Michael older men and women whose lives have grown small, quiet, and unbearably lonely.
With your support, we can:
• Bring companionship through volunteer visits
• Offer regular telephone calls that break the silence
• Create welcoming social clubs and day trips
• Ensure every older person feels seen, valued, and remembered
Your kindness can transform a lonely Christmas into one filled with connection and hope.
Together, let’s make sure no one feels invisible this Christmas—and beyond.
Thank you.
