Loneliness Among Older Men in Western And Eastern Europe
Friends of the Elderly commissioned this important research in partnership with TASC to better understand the experience of loneliness among older men across Ireland, Poland and Romania. The findings highlight that loneliness is often a hidden issue, shaped by life changes such as retirement, bereavement, declining health, and reduced social networks.
The research shows that many older men experience isolation quietly, with fewer opportunities or supports to build meaningful connections. It also highlights the importance of community-based services, social engagement, and inclusive programmes that foster a sense of belonging and purpose.
This work reinforces the need for targeted responses that recognise the unique experiences of older men and ensure that no one is left behind as our population continues to age.
