Legacy Giving:
The Gift of Friendship for Future Generations
Leaving a gift in your will allows your values to live on, supporting a cause that brings people together. By remembering Friends of the Elderly, you’re not just offering support—you’re creating friendships that will continue to brighten lives for years to come. Your legacy will help us ensure that friendship is at the heart of everything we do, making sure no one is ever left without a friend.
Types of legacies
If you would like to remember us in your Will, there are three main types of gift you can make:
- Residuary gift – is the gift of all (or part) of the value of your estate after debts, liabilities and other legacies have been paid and is the most valuable kind of legacy.
- Pecuniary gift – is the gift of a particular sum of money.
- Specific – is the gift of a specified item that could be for example; property, a painting or a piece of jewellery.
Your solicitor may find the following wording helpful if you would like to remember Friends of the Elderly Ireland in your will.
Suggested wording for a gift in your Will
“I give to Friends of the Elderly Ireland of 25 Bolton Street, Dublin 1 (Registered Charity Number:20034276) all (or a _% share) of the residue of my estate whatsoever and wheresoever and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or duly authorised officer for the time being of Friends of the Elderly Ireland shall be a full and sufficient discharge of the same”.
Suggested wording for a codicil to us:
If you already have a will, it’s easy to amend it to include a gift to Friends of the Elderly Ireland. Minor changes like this do not require a new will, and the procedure is simple. An existing will can be amended by completing a codicil which your solicitor will help you draw up.
“I (name) of (address) declare this to be my first codicil to my last Will dated (date). I give (details of legacy), to Friends of the Elderly Ireland of 25 Bolton Street, Dublin 1 (Registered Charity Number:20034276) for its general charitable purposes and I direct that the Treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be valid and appropriate form of discharge. In all other respects I confirm my Will.”
